The incident has sparked intense debates across India on women’s dignity, personal consent, and religious freedom.

The event was organised to distribute appointment letters to newly recruited AYUSH doctors. During the ceremony, a Muslim woman doctor, identified as Dr Nusrat Parveen, walked onto the stage wearing a hijab. Nitish Kumar first appeared to signal her to lower the cloth covering her face. Within moments, he reached out with his hand and pulled the hijab down from her face himself, exposing it in front of the audience and cameras.

This brief act, captured clearly on video, spread rapidly across social media platforms. Many people expressed shock and anger, calling the action a violation of the woman’s personal space and religious identity. Critics argued that no public leader has the right to touch someone’s clothing or body without clear consent, especially when it is linked to their faith and sense of modesty.
